dawn of a new era

matriculation fair today
did the crazy thing of going through it twice
the fair was really overwhelming
with seniors bombarding at every twist and turn
and sheets/phamplets shoved into your hands
plus the heavy paper bags to hang on to

but i did what i need to do:)
got my card
handed in the forms
signed up at vcf
found out a few things here and there
and booked my laptop:)

got a toshiba after some frantic calls to dad and sis
planned for an acer before that but changed my mind
hope the toshiba is as good as the specs say
but im pretty satisfied with my choice:)

cant believe school is going to start so soon
where did the 7 months go?
but i admit to have enjoyed that time
the time was in no way wasted in any case
and i learned so many things
have to get used to studying again
hmm..hope that it isnt too difficult

there is a certain apprehension
a certain uncertianty and
a certain fear

but also a certain confidence
a certain security and
a certain assurance

in black and white[or orange]

here are the details of the trip
pics will be up later cos i havent uploaded them yet
be satisfied:)

-day 1 sunday
arrived at london heathrow airport at abt 6am
it was freezing..abt 13 degrees!
and agnes told us to prepare for warm weather?!
collected our prebooked car[had a shock when we saw it]
drove off to coventry[i navigated the way there:)]

abt 2 hours plus later
landed at agnes's house:)
made ourselves comfortable and were issued our rooms
agnes brought us for an english tea at kenilworth
followed her to the supermart[see the domesticated agnes:)]
tried to watch the worldcup finals that evening
but couldnt make it..crashed to sleep at 830 i think

-day 2 monday
agnes was working[she worked the whole week in fact]
visited oxford with my parents
its an interesting place:)
basically oxford is known as a uni-town
and the uni is so ingrained and integrated in the place
there is no exact beginning or end of it, nor a campus
anyway..we drove around the town
i bought oxford shirts:)

my dad..not wanting to waste money on touristy stuff
did something really quite "him" in my opinion at least
we took the guide of the 'hop-on-hop-off bus'
and drove the route!
as expected..i navigated it:)
its quite fun actually
and we saw the school of geography:)
my parents hope i can do an exchange there next time
we'll see about that yah

drove to bicester village nearby
its like a collection of all the factory outlets of expensive brands
bought some reebok stuff only..ex lah

-day 3 tuesday
we drove down to bath[about 2.5 hours away]
parked at the park-and-ride carpark
rode the bus into bath
its a really nice and quaint little town
with very authentic english architecture
juxtaposed to the modern shop fronts and cafes
visited the roman baths
very interesting place:)
if you ever get to go to england, visit this place
its worth the money you pay

walked around the town after that
went to look for the jane austen centre
but didnt pay to get in[what lit student am i right?]
we saw some really good buskers around though

-day 4 wednesday
spent the morning in agnes's house
watching tv or challenging my dad to sudoku

had subway for lunch before going to strafford
thats the shakespeare birthplace in case you dun know
went to the shakespeare exhibition and his birthplace
i penned our names down in the guestbook there:)
couldnt find any singaporeans in it..

drove back to warwick uni to pick agnes up
before heading back to strafford to watch julius caesar:)
i really enjoyed the play
and am proud of myself that i could still rem some of the lines:)
that was my sec 4 text
but then again..my mom could rem some parts too
and that was her a level text..hmm..
my dad and sis were erm..having difficulty following though

-day 5 thursday
agnes's graduation:)
dad was in a suit, mom in a nice dress and i in my prom outfit
went to the uni really early
to collect my extra ticket and take photos
helped agnes with her grad gown too[ok..my mom helped]
she went to take the studio shots
the ceremony was kinda boring
and they pronounced her chinese name wrongly..
hung around for a little while while she took the group shots
and the usual motar board throwing picture:)

the 3 of us went to coventry city centre to walked around
after going supermart shopping with agnes[again]
was going home to a bbq after that
the bbq was pretty good:)
nice food and nice people
my family, jireh's[agnes friend + housemate] family and 2 friends
i tired aubergines for the first time
and didnt like it..heh

-day 6 friday
left for brimingham city pretty early
cos we booked out tickets for cadbury world:)
yup..the chocolate factory
it was really choc overload there
they were giving out free bars to the people at everywhere
the tour though propagandarish was informative
and i love cadbury even more now:)
we bought quite abit of choc to bring home:)
by my family's standards at least

went to birmingham city centre in the afternoon
walked around chinatown and the 'bullring' shopping centre
apparently its the largest mall in the uk[i think]
agnes was so amazed that we didnt buy anything
o well..the exchange rate just kills

helped to pack up their kitchen that night
[agnes, jireh plus 2 more people shared a house]
was the 'sealer' of packages and boxes
its eye-opening the amount of kitchen stuff they had
the kitchen never seemed to be empty..really..
packed up my laggage too before crashing to bed

-day 7 saturday
the drive up to lake district with jireh's family
stopped over at the city of manchester for lunch
walked around too
reached our booked house at 9[it was still bright]
after almost getting lost a few times
nothing much more for this day
the house was so wonderful:)
the kind that has milk sent every morning
and we were neighbours to a pen of sheep
apparently it cost the 2 girls a bomb though

-day 8 sunday
went to the town of windermere as a family
bought a route for a walk and off we went:)
walked/trekked up a hill
enter a grazing plot for sheep

jane: walking here like walking on a mine field like that
[we were all very deliberate in checking where our feet landed]
agnes: but these dun explode, they just stink:)

made it all the way up
and the view up there was FANTASTIC:)
made the climb all worth it
see the photos we took to get a glimspe of the beauty
although i admit nothing beats seeing it firsthand
reached back home early
learnt to play poker with chocs as the stake
was the first to go bankrupt:( o well

-day 9 monday
left early in the morning for york
was a combined day out for us
journey there took 3 hours[far longer then agnes thought]
reached around 12 and looked for lunch
after a relatively cheap one we setted out for "betty's"
its a really good tea place[reads ultra expensive]
picks out some dessert treats to indulge in later:)

left for the factory outlets about 15 mins away
it was shopping haven there!
shopped around with agnes
ended up spending about 70 pounds!
bought..
-bikini pieces:)
-a very nice halter black dress
- pair of balck pants
-stuff for my friends[paper and make up]
-stuff from marks and spencer
-various things for the younger siblings
very satisfying day:) very. satisfying.

drove back home
reached at about 9
still had a bbq!
and mahjong after that:)
lost big time man

-day 10 tuesday
lazy day
spent it driving around the lakes
we waded into one of them
the water is really clean and cool/cold
and got wet cause of a wave

the weather was so hot the few days cause of the heat wave
we visited a supermart to escape from the heat!
and sent the car for a carwash:)
packed up the luggage for the last time

-day 11 wednesday
left early
long drive down to london[about 300 miles]
stopped at birmingham for lunch along the way
planned to stop at liverpool but there wasnt the time
returned the car at 6
and hung around at the airport till we boarded the plane
and home sweet home:)
-thats all folks-

how many of you went "finally.."?
its ok lah..i found it a drag typing everything out too
i enjoyed the trip alot though:)
the weather was pleasent enough
except the last few days when it was seriously HOT

the pics are coming up soon
still working on the captions
and when you have 200 over pics

chasing after the darkness

above the endless sea of clouds
beneath the jigsaw of constellations
chased fruitlessly by the light
chasing after the darkness

to see the glowing horizon yet not the sun
and bask in its serene hue
i see the whimsical wisps of clouds
as we're chasing after the darkness

sitting in the cramped window seat
i turn to marvel at the scene
the drooling hum of the flight machine
reminds that we're chasing the darkness

i gazed at the world in a different light
as we chased after the darkness

*penned this while on the flight to england.

cos staying at my sister's house for the first few days:)
although the time im on would be weird [uk time = spore time - 7 hrs]

lessons from a vcf camp

- good, wholesome, clean fun is possible
- SU campsite has not really changed since like 6 years ago
- and the food is still good:)
- palawan beach toilets are soooo goooooddd now
- 'duality' and 'singularity' are scientific terms
- the matrix and humility can mix

- we can decide to love
- we need to be deliberate when we reach out to pple
- witnessing is not an event but a process:)

it was a good camp. i went a day late for it. felt a little blur at first cos everyone like knew everyone else already. got over it after a while. helped that i knew quite a few pple already.

liked my group. we were food-loving [look at the amount of snacks they bought you would suspect they thought food ws not provided], non-competitive and just a very easy going bunch of pple. we could stop for ben and jerry's while having the treasure hunt:) and the very interesting 'ethical' guy.

the 2 theme talks i went for were great. the speaker was good and really challenges you to do something about it. the "witnessing is not an event but a process" really spoke to me. we always talk about spreading the gospel but we lack the perseverence to carry on when the short term results are not good. how long would you/i continue trying? and are we guilty of seeing our witnessing to friends as mere 'projects' to complete?

enjoyed myself alot:) esp the last night when we stayed up till 3 to talk. its encouraging to have christian friends around and seeing/hearing what God is doing in their lives, and how vcf has helped them. its really likely that im going to join vcf in uni:)

8 long years plus somemore

signed away 8 years of my life
belonging to MOE from now on
good and bad

its good that my uni education is being paid for
and that teaching is something that i enjoy

bad that this decision is very limiting
and its 8 years of belonging to someone
well..still better than my elder sis:)

the decision i had to make was not a very easy one
at least not as easy as it was for say..erica

i admit that teaching has always been at the back of my head..
from the point i chose to drop a maths[ hence destined to arts forever]
i knew that this route was more or less inevitable
few choices left anyway
plus the fact that my mom was actively advertising it

at the beginning..i struggled quite abit
not being sure whether it was my own desire to enter it
and i didnt want to go through uni with expectations
or having to limit myself to certain modules only..

i prayed quite alot
asking God to show the way
to make clear what HE wanted me to do
yet i never really felt assured[maybe i didnt listen hard enough]
sent in the applications..
went for the interviews..
waited..hoped..anticipated..
prayed somemore

got the award in the end and accepted it[despite what some advised]
my 'deal' with God was that if He was going to give it
i was going to be faithful to take it
i know what i am getting myself into
and i pray that God gives me the strength to go through
we can only see what the 8 years has install for me
-end-

visited the kindergarten yesterday
[for those who dun know..i worked in a kindergarten before pl]

so happy to see all the kids again:)
esp my dear klesa:))
the kids looked so puzzled when i walked in
well..i didnt expect them to remember me..
they are only 3 years old and i have MIA-ed for 4 months
one girl[shandy] did remember actually[one point for her;)]
klesa was a little cold at first
but she warmed up and started tugging at me everywhere
and showing off a new skill she learnt[duck walking:)]
so cute..
after that..she insisted on sitting on my lap during class
and kept trying to wrap her arm round my neck[think semi-hug]
i feel so loved:) i know its just kids lah
enjoyed playing with the other kids too[later you say i biased]
going back to help as and when i can

going to be busy from now on
drug challenge on tues [details/history were given in may]
vcf camp from tues to fri
uk trip from 8th to 20th
dun think i have enough clothes to last
or enough energy
but i will manage:)
so if you wanna 'book' me for anything..
make it after the 21st[and pray for no jet lag]

and after that its the start of uni
how exciting and daunting

till the next time
cheers:)
and break a leg to all the world cup fans
i prefer uninterrupted sleep though
